Not sure what Spot Instance Interruption means?
Amazon EC2 Spot Instances let you take advantage of unused EC2 capacity in the AWS cloud. You can launch Spot Instances on spare EC2 capacity for steep discounts in exchange for returning them when Amazon EC2 needs the capacity back. When Amazon EC2 reclaims a Spot Instance, this event is called a Spot Instance interruption. If you'd like more details, see this page of the AWS documentation.
How do I avoid these interruptions?
There is no way to know if or when the excess capacity will be reclaimed. This article only describes how to use Spot placement score tool with Deadline. Spot Placement score is a feature available in AWS EC2 console in spot request panel where we can check the demand for the requested instance types on the requested AWS region.
AWS will provide score on a scale of 1 to 10 defines how likely your capacity will be provisioned by AWS. A higher score means that it's more likely you'll be able to get and keep the instances you're asking for.
How can I use the Spot placement score with Deadline?
Deadline doesn't have in-built support to display the spot placement score of given instances. However you can use the score to create a list of instance types you can later input into Deadline.
There are two ways to calculate a Spot placement score:
1. By specifying instance attributes
Deadline doesn't support creating Spot fleet requests directly based on instance attributes, so if you choose to use this option, make a note of the instances listed in 'Preview matching instance types'.
2. By specifying instance types
If your chosen region shows a high placement score, great! You should be in good shape to carry on but if you're seeing low scores for your chosen region there's a couple of options available to you: You could add more instance types to your request, as a greater variety of instance types will help increase resilience. You could also run your render in a different region, but keep in mind transferring data across regions come at additional cost.
Now you've got a list of instance types you can use in either the Spot Event Plugin or in the AWS Portal.
